In the past decade I have had several opportunities to deal with O’Steen Volvo in Jacksonville. Well, they weren’t really “opportunities” because that has a positive connotation, they were more “misfortunes.”
First, several years ago, I purchased a Volvo S80. After 2 previous Volvos, I expected a quality, well-built car. Alas, that was not to be. The Volvo S80 had to go in to O’Steen Volvo at least every 6 weeks. Through a combination of a poorly built Volvo S80 and poor repairs at O’Steen Volvo the Volvo S80 was a terrible car. To make matters worse, O’Steen Volvo promised a loaner car each time the S80 was brought in, yet delivered the loaner only about half the time. With two young kids, O’Steen Volvo… Click to read more …
Monahan Roofing in Jacksonville, Florida (904-568-4920, LIC RC 0047349) was hired to do some roof work in February of 2010. Tom Monahan is an extremely nice person and gave a thorough estimate for the job. His workers showed up on the day they said they would and said they finished the job within the 2-3 days they had thought it would take. So, I had high hopes that Monahan Roofing, Jacksonville, would be a company I could recommend. From the ground it looked complete, so I went ahead an paid.
Little did I know that there were at least 4-5 spots – I have not been able to verify the part above the pool, so it may be more – where they had not finished the work. After I found the spots, it took some time and multiple calls, but they did come out and fix all of the issues. It took more than a month, but it seems the delay was one of neglect by workers, not malice.
Monahan Roofing of Jacksonville, did eventually finish the job and did a fine job, hopefully they will continue to improve supervision of their workers so that their quality work gets rewarded.
Grade: B — only because it took multiple calls and weeks of waiting to get things finished.
Amazing, but it seems that Sawyer Gas is too busy to take new Rinnai Tankless water heater customers! I think Griffis Gas is the way to go. After requesting more information about a tankless water heater, this was the response:
Thank you for visiting us at http://www.rinnai.com, Sawyer gas of Jacksonville Beach just informed us that they are unable to take your request at this time. If you wish to contact other dealer(s) please visit Rinnai.
Thank You

Today I got a call from 904-287-5727, Zero-Res in Jacksonville, Florida. This wasn’t your typical call, it was a pre-recorded sales pitch for a company that had not been out to clean my carpets in about 30 months.
To make matters worse, they called on my cell phone. And to further complicate matters, Zero-Res in Jacksonville apparently ignored the Federal Do Not Call list (which my cell phone is listed on) which requires a business relationship within 18 months.
Talk about a way to not win customers loyalty – ignoring the Federal Law, doing a pre-recorded message (FTC prohibited without a business relationship in the last 18 months), and doing it on my cell phone where I have to pay for the minutes!
Come on, if you want to win customer’s loyalty, treat them how you would like to be treated? Would Zero-Res want pre-recorded calls on your cell phone from EVERYONE you had done business with in the last 3 years? I seriously doubt it.
If you are looking for a safe for your house, we can heartily recommend Knowell Lock and Safe of Jacksonville. The people on the sales floor are the same people who come to deliver and bolt down your safe. From the initial contact on the sales floor to delivery (the next day!) everyone was very courteous, polite and friendly even when asked a huge number of questions.
The company is family run (grandmother, father, daughter, son, perhaps more) and have their reputation at stake, so not surprisingly they were all pleasant to deal with.

Update:The good news is that it is now working as of noon on July 3rd, 2008. The bad news is that it took until July 3rd. However, it is working and Setzer’s did indeed follow-through, eventually.
Based on our recent experiences with Setzer’s Appliance of Jacksonville, we have to rate them as having poor customer service and can consequently only recommend that you avoid Setzer’s Appliance. On April 29, 2008 we purchased (and our card was charged) a KitchenAid vent hood (aka downdraft, model number KIRD861HSS). The total cost was $894.64 for a new unit plus installation, well above the KitchenAid MSRP of $819 (see KitchenAid). One would presume that Setzer’s Appliance of Jacksonville would provide superior customer service to go with their superior prices, but if our experience is typical, that is not Click to read more …
Premier Garage of Jacksonville gets an A rating from Jacksonville.biz. Premier Garage (http://premiergarage.com/) recently re-did our garage and did a wonderful job with it. If you look at their web-site, you will see what our garage looked like after they finished. While not identical to the pictures on the web, the result looked just as good and Premier Garage did it in the time-frame they stated. So, if you are looking to organize and fix your garage, our experience says, go with Premier Garage.
Jacksonville.BIZ’s kudos go out to Gutterman of Jacksonville (aka Southeast Building Products Inc., Jacksonville, Florida). Gutterman’s salesman Ricky Yutzy came out to our home and noted that we needed 7 inch gutters. He informed us that the product line they carried in seven inch gutters only comes in two colors, neither of which would look good with our paint color. Mr. Yutzy then recommended two of their competitors since they had a larger selection of colors in seven inch gutters. So, a great big thank you for being honest to Jacksonville’s Gutterman! That is how to run a good business and how to earn a great reputation: honesty and doing what is best for the customer. If our experience is any indication, Gutterman of Jacksonville is a class act.
